Thanks to our summer fundraising efforts and the generosity of individuals and businesses in Sandisfield, the Friends of Sandisfield Fire Department (FOSFD) was able to purchase 13 Automatic External Defibrillator units (AEDs), along with the appropriate indoor or outdoor cabinets. The total cost was $11,700. Former Chief Grillo negotiated a deeply-discounted bulk price for these re-certified units, which includes a three-year warranty. Along with one previously installed AED located at Town Hall, the new AEDs will be placed at: Old Town Hall, DPW Garage, Transfer Station, Library, Yanner Park, Clam River Trail, Hanging Mountain, West Lake, Spectacle Pond, York Lake, Sandisfield Arts Center, Sandisfield Orchard, and Sunny Rose Farm.
The Philips HeartStart FRx Defibrillators (AEDs) are quite small, measuring approximately 7 x 9 inches. They come in a zippered case with both written and recorded instructions which can be played at the press of a button. If you're curious about their ease of use, you should go to Youtube howtousephilipsaed. The crucial first step in using an AED to help someone is to call 911 before starting the procedure. Ensure that help is on the way, then open the kit and follow the instructions. We plan to continue our mission to educate the public (including CPR classes & AED instruction), create community through events, and fundraise for needed items for the fire and emergency services departments. If you have any questions, email us at info@friendsofSFD.org. |
