The New Boston Congregational Church will hold a festive yard sale again this fall, with the proceeds going toward a new roof and repairs to the belfry. The current roof is at least 40 years old and losing shingles.

Last year's theme, "Not Your Ordinary Yard Sale," lived up to the billing and will be used again for an even better fun time. The sale far exceeded expectations because a generous public donated heaps of items in many categories, so many that first day shoppers had to edge their way through packed aisles and tables. About 200 came during the three days of the sale.

This year's format will again include tours of the historic c.1879 "Little Brown Church" (with a chance to ring the church bell), as well as a food stand with burgers and dogs, fresh popcorn, and soft drinks. Acclaimed fire performer, the "Dame of Flames," Ali O'Donnell of Boston, will thrill attendees with a free show on Saturday afternoon. Bring the kids.

Planners are asking friends and neighbors to rummage again through their attics, basements, and barns for those wonderful things they will never use and their adult children won't take.

Plants were a hit last year. Gardeners: please donate some beautiful plants for new homes.
