When I bought my house in Sandisfield 22 years ago I was ecstatic. Peaceful, beautiful, friendly, and just 15 minutes from work. It was perfect. But not so any more, in large part because of less-than-ideal Town leadership. What some of us are experiencing are the attacks on our questions about the manner in which the Town operates. At the Select Board meetings the leadership sometimes appears to be falling asleep over their boredom with their agendas. Several times the Town has appeared on the front page of The Eagle with information about our fire chief and his practices, not the least of which is the enormous amount of money he's demanding for our fire department, money that many of us feel is way out of line. Yet the Select Board supports his budget. Alexander Russo is a young, talented, honest, and intelligent man, willing to stand up to refresh a system that has gone astray. He is a photonics engineering student at Berkshire Community College and approaches problems with an analytic mindset. He believes in looking at an entire system to find long-term solutions and values the truth, careful planning and hard work. Beyond his technical background, Alexander is an investigator, navigating public records, reading between the lines of municipal budgets, and he holds the institutions accountable. He will be a tireless advocate for every single resident, closing the divide between Town Hall and the people it is designed to serve. That is why I am supporting Alexander Russo for the 3-year opening on the Select Board. |
