At the Tax Classification meeting last month, the Board of Assessors Chair, Roger Brown, informed the Select Board that single family residential housing values (that represent 90% of property values in Sandisfield) have increased about ten percent over last year, bringing the average price of a home in Sandisfield to $442,000.

The increase, he added, was driven by strong sales, building activity and the increased in construction costs that influence replacement cost. Land-only sales also increased with new homes constructed on previously vacant sites driving higher land prices.

The Select Board voted to maintain last year's tax policy that included a "split rate" that lowered property taxes on residential properties by shifting some tax burden to commercial, industrial and personal property classes. This benefited residential taxpayers who pay a lower property taxes and are exempted from personal property taxes on their full-time residence.
