Proposed Agreement Approved by DESE
Published January 15, 2024.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has cleared the content and legal review of the proposed new Regional District Agreement. The proposal is outlined in the articles in this issue of The Times.

The next step is for Otis and Sandisfield to schedule special town meetings for the town's registered voters to vote the proposal up or down. The vote needs to be taken no later than the end of February in order to be able to apply the new apportionment method into the FY26 budget process (which is currently underway).

The Times recommends a "yes" vote by both towns in order to ensure the future financial sustainability of the district.

The FRRSD Union (representing teachers, professionals, and other school employees) recently wrote that a "yes" vote would "support our goal of ensuring that our school continues to be a place where students thrive. We look forward to continued collaboration between our member towns to build on this progress, and to make our district a model for educational excellence and fairness."
